The Follow-Up Cadence That Books More Moves
Why the follow-up is where moves are won
A moving customer requests several quotes and books quickly, but rarely on the first contact. They're comparing prices, checking dates, and waiting to hear back. The company that stays in front of them through that short decision window usually wins the job — and that means following up, not just calling once.
The data across sales is consistent: most deals close after multiple attempts, yet most leads receive a single touch. For movers, that gap is pure lost revenue on leads you already paid to generate.
A sample multi-touch cadence
There's no single perfect sequence, but a workable one looks like this: call within minutes of the lead arriving, and if you don't connect, send a short text and an email the same day. Over the next few days, alternate a call with a text or email so you're making contact once or twice a day without becoming a nuisance.
If the customer still hasn't responded after the first week, slow to a lighter touch — a check-in a few days later, then a final message before the move date is likely past. The goal is persistent, not relentless: every attempt should add a reason to respond, like confirming availability for their date.
Match the channel to the moment
Calls are best for the first touch and for anyone who has engaged — they move the quote forward fastest. Text is ideal for quick confirmations and for customers who don't answer unknown numbers. Email carries the detailed quote and gives the customer something to forward to a spouse or reference later.
Using all three isn't redundant. Different customers respond on different channels, and a lead who ignores two calls will sometimes reply to a text within seconds.
The real bottleneck is consistency
Designing a cadence is easy; running it on every single lead, every day, during a busy moving season is hard. That's where most in-house efforts break down — the person responsible is also driving a truck or managing a crew, so follow-up gets skipped exactly when lead volume is highest.
This is the core of what an outsourced sales team provides: not a secret script, but the guaranteed discipline to work every lead through the full cadence so no booking is lost to a missed follow-up.
